In a significant move toward revitalizing urban spaces, Tameside Council's Executive Cabinet has officially approved plans for a Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) in Ashton and Stalybridge. The newly proposed MDC is expected to serve as a catalyst for regeneration, unlocking over 3,000 new homes and creating thousands of high-skilled job opportunities. Council Leader Eleanor Wills emphasized the significance of this initiative: "The Executive Cabinet approval of the Ashton and Stalybridge Mayoral Development Corporation is a really important step for the future of these two towns and for the wider borough." With plans to create an Integrated Transport Hub, Ashton is poised to become one of the best-connected towns outside London, seamlessly integrating rail, Metrolink, bus, and active travel options.

Building on a Legacy of Growth

The MDC builds upon the Ashton Mayoral Development Zone conceptualized by former Mayor Andy Burnham, further demonstrating the commitment to regeneration and economic growth across Tameside.
