Exciting News: New Special School Set to Open in Kildare!
In a bright development for education in County Kildare, a new special school is set to open in Monasterevin for the 2026/2027 academic year. This initiative comes as a result of converting the existing St. Peter's boys primary school, which is relocating to a newly constructed building.
A Commitment to Special Education
Fianna Fáil Senator Fiona O’Loughlin expressed her enthusiasm regarding the establishment of the new school, highlighting that it represents a significant step forward for students with additional needs. This announcement, made by Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion Michael Moynihan TD, aligns with a broader national goal to enhance special education provision across Ireland.
Increasing Access and Capacity
Senator O’Loughlin, who comes from a teaching background, emphasized the importance of accessible education for every child. "Every child has a right to an education; that education must be accessible and supported so that each child can fully benefit from it," she stated. The new school will allow for an increase in capacity for students with additional needs throughout Kildare.
A Bright Future Ahead
This year alone, Kildare has already received 18 new special classes, more than any other nearby commuter counties. As the demand for special education increases, further announcements regarding expansions in special classes throughout the county are anticipated in the near future. Senator O’Loughlin reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for even more resources and facilities to ensure that all students receive the education they deserve.
Overall, the opening of this new school marks an essential advancement in creating an inclusive educational environment for all children in County Kildare.
