Exciting New Social Security Agreement Boosts Benefits for Moldovan Citizens in Slovakia

In a significant step for Moldovan expatriates, a new Social Security Agreement has been reached between the Republic of Moldova and the Slovak Republic. This agreement, signed by Moldova's Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Natalia Plugaru, and Slovak State Secretary Marián Valentovič in Bratislava, aims to provide Moldovan citizens who have worked in Slovakia the ability to access various pensions and social benefits.

Enhancing Social Rights for Workers

The freshly signed agreement establishes a fair framework designed to protect the social rights of individuals who have legally worked in both Moldova and Slovakia. It encompasses crucial benefits, including old-age pensions, disability pensions due to general conditions, and survivor's pensions, ensuring that citizens are financially supported during challenging times.

A Commitment to Citizen Welfare

Minister Plugaru emphasized the importance of such agreements in strengthening the rights and welfare of Moldovan citizens abroad. She noted, "The Republic of Moldova is constantly strengthening its efforts to expand the number of bilateral agreements in the field of social security," highlighting the government's commitment to safeguarding the rights of its citizens, irrespective of where they reside.

A Growing Network of International Agreements

This agreement marks another milestone in Moldova's ongoing endeavor to establish a comprehensive social protection system. Currently, Moldova has signed 22 Social Security Agreements, with 18 already in effect. In recent years, the Ministry has successfully concluded similar agreements with various countries, including Italy, Greece, Spain, Latvia, France, Switzerland, Canada, and Ukraine, ensuring a wider safety net for its citizens working abroad.

As Moldova continues to foster international collaborations in social security, the future looks promising for its citizens. These agreements not only enhance welfare but also reflect a commitment to the protection of rights and benefits for all Moldovans working overseas.
