Exciting New Initiatives to Enhance Student Safety in Bend–La Pine Schools

Bend–La Pine schools have received a significant boost in student safety efforts with the awarding of two grants from the Oregon Department of Transportation. This funding is earmarked for the creation of a Safe Routes to School Plan, focusing on identifying hazards and improving walking and biking routes for students.

Creating a Safer Environment

The Safe Routes to School Plan aims to make travel to school not only safer but also more enjoyable for students. By pinpointing areas that present hazards and addressing them, the initiative demonstrates a meaningful commitment to student well-being and community safety.

Introducing the Traffic Garden

Additionally, one of the grants will help fund a new 'Traffic Garden' at La Pine Elementary. This innovative educational space will allow students to learn about bike and pedestrian safety in a controlled and engaging environment, effectively equipping them with essential knowledge for navigating their communities safely.

A Vision for the Future

These initiatives represent a proactive step towards fostering a culture of safety and awareness among young learners. By emphasizing education and infrastructure improvements, Bend–La Pine schools are setting a progressive example that prioritizes the health and safety of its students.
