Exciting Infrastructure Developments Ahead of Ardh Kumbh Mela 2027

As the Ardh Kumbh Mela 2027 approaches, significant developments in road infrastructure are set to enhance connectivity in Haridwar, one of India's most revered pilgrimage destinations. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is rapidly advancing two major highway projects designed to ease traffic congestion and facilitate smoother travel for both pilgrims and tourists.

Major Highway Projects Underway

The first of these initiatives, a 51-km six-lane access-controlled Spur to Haridwar, is nearing completion, with approximately 92% of the project finished. A substantial 46 km of the highway has already been constructed, connecting the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor to Haridwar, thus providing travelers a faster route without the hassle of entering the congested city roads.

Haridwar Bypass Progress

In tandem with the main highway project, the construction of a 15-km Haridwar Bypass is progressing swiftly, with about 77% of the project complete. This four-lane road, which begins at Bahadrabad and concludes near the Chandi Devi Temple on NH-34, is aimed at diverting through traffic away from the bustling city center, ultimately reducing travel time and improving the experience for visitors.

Enhancing Local Connectivity

Beyond the highway and bypass projects, NHAI is also working on constructing flyovers, vehicular underpasses, and service roads at critical junctions along the Haridwar-Muzaffarnagar National Highway. These enhancements at locations like Purkazi, Phaloda, Manglaur, Bahadrabad, and Jwalapur are poised to alleviate year-round heavy traffic, making travel safer and more efficient.

Set to be completed before the upcoming Ardh Kumbh Mela, these infrastructure improvements are expected to significantly reduce congestion around Har Ki Pauri, Chandi Chowk, and other vital areas. Moreover, they promise to enhance regional connectivity, bolster religious tourism, and stimulate the local economy, providing a brighter outlook for the area as it gears up for one of India's largest religious events.
