Exciting Developments in Cullompton: A New Shared-Use Path to Enhance Community Connectivity

The town of Cullompton is witnessing significant progress in community infrastructure with the construction of a new section of the Cullompton Community Association (CCA) shared-use path. This initiative is part of the larger Cullompton Relief Road project, designed to improve connectivity for both pedestrians and cyclists in the area.

Pathway Construction Underway

Work on the shared-use path is advancing well, with the route fully excavated and prepared for construction. Currently, kerb installation is underway, marking an essential phase towards completing this segment before the primary construction of the relief road begins this summer. This new path will serve to link Meadow Lane to an already constructed section by the sports pitches, forming a safe and accessible route for active travelers.

Benefits for the Community

Once completed, the three-metre wide tarmac path will facilitate better access to various recreational facilities, including football pitches, a cricket pitch, and a bowling green. This initiative aims to promote active travel and ensure that residents can enjoy safe and convenient routes across the community for years to come.

Minimizing Disruption and Prioritizing Safety

In an effort to minimize disruption during construction, the path is being developed in phases. Recently, preparatory work has been carried out, including overnight activities to ensure the safety of local wildlife, particularly along the railway boundary. The involvement of specialist contractors supported by an ecologist ensures that ecological requirements are met, safeguarding habitats such as those of dormice.

This project, backed by funding from Homes England and coordinated by Devon County Council, represents a significant step forward in enhancing community infrastructure. It is a testament to the commitment towards sustainability and the well-being of Cullompton residents, ensuring a well-connected and vibrant community.
