Exciting Developments in Cullompton: A New Path for the Community

The Cullompton Community Association (CCA) is seeing significant progress with the development of a new shared-use path, part of the broader Cullompton Relief Road project. This initiative marks a considerable step toward enhancing community connectivity and promoting active transport options in the region.

Pathway Construction Underway

The newly designed route for the shared-use path is fully excavated and prepared for construction, with kerbs currently being installed. This path will connect Meadow Lane to previously constructed sections near the sports pitches, contributing to an overall three-metre wide tarmac path that will stretch the entire length of the Cullompton Relief Road.

Benefits for Walkers and Cyclists

Once completed, this path will serve as a high-quality, safe, and accessible route for walkers and cyclists, significantly improving travel connections to local recreational facilities, including football pitches, a cricket pitch, and a bowling green. The phased delivery of the project is aimed at minimizing disruption, ensuring that the community can continue to benefit from access to these essential facilities.

Commitment to Environmental Safety

In addition to its transport benefits, the project demonstrates a commitment to ecological and safety standards. The ongoing preparations include careful ecological and archaeological assessments to protect wildlife and dormouse habitats. Work is scheduled to minimize disturbances, with some activities taking place at night to ensure safety along the nearby railway line, all while being supervised by experts in ecology.

Community and Funding Support

Mid Devon District Council has secured funding from Homes England for this transformative project, with Devon County Council facilitating the detailed design and implementation. This partnership underscores the collaborative effort to ensure the community remains connected and engaged with local facilities for the long term.

This ongoing project not only enhances infrastructure but also promotes a healthier and more active lifestyle for the residents of Cullompton. The completion of the shared-use path is eagerly anticipated by the community as it will pave the way for safer travel and increased accessibility.
