Exciting Developments for Local Community with New Vessel Contracts

Recent announcements have brought exciting news to the community with Ferguson Marine being awarded four new vessel contracts. During a visit to the yard, I had the opportunity to speak with chief executive Graeme Thomson and shop stewards Alex Logan and Kenny Meechan, all of whom expressed their delight at this development.

A Boost for Jobs and the Local Economy

The contracts signify not just a positive step for Ferguson Marine, but also a potential boost for local employment and the economy. As these vessels are set to be built, the ripple effect in job creation and skill development in the region cannot be overstated.

Celebrating Scottish Apprenticeship Week

Last week also marked Scottish Apprenticeship Week, during which I attended an event hosted by River Clyde Homes to meet some of their apprentices. This initiative is crucial for fostering new talent and providing young individuals with valuable career opportunities. Such apprenticeship programs enhance the workforce and contribute to industry growth.

Community Engagement for Better Living Conditions

In addition to these highlights, I visited Devol with staff from Link/C~urb housing and engaged with residents to address maintenance concerns in common areas. The productive discussions held during the walkabout are expected to improve communication between the housing staff and residents, yielding better living conditions moving forward.

Support for Ardgowan Hospice

My visit to Ardgowan Hospice was focused on the plans for the demolition of the former Greenock Methodist Church and addressing ongoing funding concerns. I remain committed to advocating for fairer funding for local hospices, which is essential for sustaining their operations and ensuring they can continue providing vital care for the community.

Overall, these developments present a narrative of positive change and growth within the community, highlighting how collective efforts are essential to driving progress in various sectors.
