In a significant move to bolster rural entrepreneurship, Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO) has secured a $50,000 grant from Meta. This funding will launch the "Crook & Jefferson Innovate" project, aimed at enhancing economic opportunities for the residents of Crook and Jefferson counties.
Strengthening the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem
The initiative will cater to approximately 51,000 residents in the area, emphasizing a comprehensive assessment of the local entrepreneurial landscape. The project focuses on identifying emerging entrepreneurs and understanding barriers related to digital access and business support, all crucial elements for nurturing a thriving entrepreneurial community.
Understanding Local Needs
As Kelsey Haskett, the Prineville and Crook County director for EDCO, noted, while the region possesses a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit, there remains a gap in digital tools and infrastructure necessary for growth. "This grant allows us to better understand where entrepreneurs are and what resources they need," said Haskett. This insight is essential for building stronger pathways for business expansion and job creation.

Rural areas, particularly in Central Oregon, often face distinct challenges, including limited broadband infrastructure and fragmented support services.
