Empowering Young Minds: Alexandria Women for Good Grants Nearly $14,000 to Tutoring Consortium
In a heartwarming display of community support, Alexandria Women for Good presented a grant of $13,973 to the Alexandria Tutoring Consortium, significantly enhancing tutoring and literacy efforts for local students. The presentation, marked by a “big check” reveal on April 30, showcases the organization's commitment to fostering educational growth.
Transforming Lives Through Literacy
The grant, nominated by member Eleanor Trice, was awarded through Alexandria Women for Good’s quarterly “Gather & Grant” process. This initiative allows members to nominate local nonprofits, voting to decide which deserving organization will benefit from their pooled funding. Trice, who actively volunteers with ATC’s Book Buddies program, passionately expressed her belief in the impact of literacy support for children.
Community Engagement and Success
With this grant, the Alexandria Tutoring Consortium aims to expand its reach, sharing more books and tutoring resources and enabling them to assist even more students this summer. Currently, volunteer tutors are helping around 300 students across all 14 public elementary schools in Alexandria. Mary Ann Solomon, an ATC board member, emphasized the remarkable growth of the program and the vital role volunteers play in transforming struggling readers into confident learners.
A Call to Action
Alexandria Women for Good is not only dedicated to providing grants but also to strengthening community ties through events and networking opportunities. They are on a mission to reach a $15,000 fundraising goal for their next grant cycle and encourage more women to join their philanthropic circle. The next Gather & Grant event is set for May 7 at Founders Hall, where potential members and community-focused nonprofits gather to exchange ideas and foster connections.
This initiative undoubtedly highlights the power of community collaboration in nurturing the next generation. As Alexandria Women for Good continues to champion local causes, it paves the way for a future where every child has the literacy skills needed to succeed.
