Empowering Voices: Jersey's Commitment to Online Safety

A recent public consultation in Jersey has raised hopes for enhanced online safety measures, as more than 80% of participants expressed support for proposed legislation aimed at removing illegal and harmful online content. This initiative, spearheaded by Deputy Moz Scott, Assistant Minister for Sustainable Economic Development, marks a significant step toward prioritizing the voices and concerns of islanders in the digital space.

A Resounding Call for Action

The eight-week consultation was met with overwhelming enthusiasm, gathering a total of 96 formal submissions along with contributions from over 100 young people through the School Council Network. Such robust engagement highlights the widespread desire among islanders for legislative action against online bullying and harmful content.

In addition to advocating for content removal, around three-quarters of respondents supported enhanced online privacy protections. This dual-focus approach not only seeks to combat detrimental online behavior but also emphasizes the safeguarding of personal information, showcasing a comprehensive strategy to improve online conditions for all ages.
