Empowering Moldovan Citizens: A New Era of Social Security Benefits

In a significant step towards enhancing the welfare of its citizens, the Republic of Moldova has formalized a Social Security Agreement with the Slovak Republic. This landmark agreement, signed in Bratislava by Moldova's Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Natalia Plugaru, and Slovak State Secretary Marián Valentovič, aims to provide Moldovan citizens who have worked in Slovakia with access to essential social benefits, including various forms of pensions.

Fair Framework for Social Rights

The newly established agreement is designed to ensure that Moldovan individuals who have worked or are currently working in Slovakia are entitled to a range of social security benefits. This includes old-age pensions, disability pensions due to general health conditions or work-related accidents, and survivor's pensions. Such provisions mark a vital step in safeguarding the rights and well-being of Moldovan citizens abroad.

A Commitment to Social Protection

Minister Plugaru highlighted the importance of this agreement, stating, "Each signed agreement reflects our firm commitment to protecting the rights of citizens, wherever they are." This statement underscores Moldova's dedication to expanding its network of bilateral agreements aimed at bolstering social security for its citizens. With this agreement, Moldova now boasts a total of 22 signed Social Security Agreements, 18 of which are already in effect. Additionally, recent deals with countries such as Italy, Greece, and Canada illustrate Moldova's proactive approach to developing a comprehensive social protection system.

This agreement not only enhances the social rights of Moldovan workers abroad but also reinforces the government's ongoing efforts to build a more effective safety net for citizens, ensuring their rights are upheld in any part of the world.
