In an encouraging initiative, fathers across the UK are being called upon to actively participate in a government survey focused on enhancing online safety for children and young people. As part of a 12-week consultation that explores vital measures to protect young internet users, there's a noticeable gap in responses from dads compared to their female counterparts.

Currently, responses from mothers have significantly outpaced those from fathers, with dads contributing to less than a quarter of the total 28,000 parent responses collected thus far. This trend raises concerns about the representation of fathers in discussions crucial for their children's online well-being. Kanishka Narayan MP, the Minister for Online Safety, emphasizes the importance of paternal involvement by stating that fathers must also share their insights and experiences to ensure that all voices are heard in shaping the future of online safety.

He asserts, "This is an issue that matters to families of every background, in every region – and it's so important that everyone has a direct say in the action we take." According to Lee Chambers, CEO of Male Allies UK, various factors may hinder male participation, such as fear of judgment or the misconception that online safety primarily concerns others. Chambers advocates for framing the consultation in ways that resonate with men and boys, suggesting that familiar topics like gaming and content creation could foster greater engagement. He insists that normalizing male participation will not only enhance the survey outcomes but also encourage a culture where men feel comfortable voicing their opinions on issues that impact them directly.
