Duns Driver Celebrates Historic Rally Victory in Hometown
In a remarkable display of talent and determination, Garry Pearson made history by winning the prestigious Jim Clark Rally in his hometown of Duns for the first time. This exhilarating moment capped off an impressive weekend for Pearson, who also secured a fifth-place finish in the Jim Clark Rally before his podium finish in the thrilling Reivers Rally.
A Dream Come True for Garry Pearson
“It's a dream come true for me to win,” expressed Pearson, who achieved this milestone alongside co-driver Hannah McKillop in their Ford Fiesta Rally2. Reflecting on the significance of the rally in his life, he said, “Growing up in Duns and the Scottish Borders, the Jim Clark Rally is such a big part of the year and was definitely responsible for me becoming a rally driver. To have my name on the roll of honour makes me feel extremely proud.”
Celebrating Talents and Remembering Legends
The three-day rally drew hundreds of spectators eager to witness the thrilling action. The event paid tribute to the late Dai Roberts, who tragically lost his life in a crash at last year's rally. Competitors sported commemorative stickers featuring Roberts' image on their cars, emphasizing the spirit of camaraderie within the rally community.
Max McRae's Stellar Performance
Adding to the excitement, Max McRae, son of the 1995 British Champion Alister McRae, clinched victory in the main event at the Jim Clark Rally. “This win feels pretty good,” McRae shared with emotion, highlighting the significance of his win not just for himself but also as a tribute to those lost. His co-driver, Cameron Fair, joined him in the Skoda Fabia Rally2, showcasing a strong performance that resonated with both the team and the fans.
The celebrations at this year's event were not only a testament to the skill of the drivers but also a reflection of the tight-knit community that rally racing fosters. As Pearson and McRae bask in their hard-earned successes, the future of rally driving in Scotland shines brightly, fueled by passion and dedication.
