Theatre enthusiasts and community supporters have a reason to celebrate as the Shire Stories programme marks six months of fostering creative expression among underrepresented voices in the West Midlands. This innovative initiative is shining a light on untold stories while providing vital artistic development opportunities.

Empowering Voices through Creative Workshops

Launched in February 2026, Shire Stories is a two-year literary project primarily focused on unearthing stories from Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, and Shropshire. The programme has established a powerful partnership with The Monday Night Club in Worcester, an organization dedicated to supporting adults with learning difficulties or autism.

Recently, a 10-week workshop series culminated in a vibrant showcase of scenes, impressively created and performed by the participants. Julia Bentley, an intern facilitator at Shire Stories, expressed her delight in witnessing the progress of the participants. "Each week we create a scene, incorporating familiar subjects and introducing light-hearted challenges," she stated. The focus on creativity and fun serves to inspire both the facilitators and the participants alike.

Exciting Showcase on the Horizon

As part of its ongoing efforts, Shire Stories will host "Tiny Plays, Big Ideas" at Swan Studio on May 24. This evening of short plays will feature groundbreaking works by emerging playwrights from the region. Titles like "Waiting Time," "Searching for Sarah," and "Geoffrey with a G" promise to captivate audiences, showcasing the diversity and depth of talent in the West Midlands.
