Discover the Joy of Cultural Connections at the Liverpool Arab Arts Festival!

The Liverpool Arab Arts Festival (LAAF), the UK’s longest-running annual festival dedicated to Arab arts and culture, is set to return for its 24th year this July. Established in 1998, LAAF champions creativity from the Arab region and its diaspora, highlighting the powerful role that art plays in expressing our shared humanity.

Understanding the Theme: HOME

This year's festival theme, "HOME," invites both artists and audiences to explore the myriad meanings of what home represents. From deep-rooted places and familial connections to shared memories and experiences, the festival's diverse programme encompasses music, theatre, visual arts, literature, and film. The culmination of these efforts will be celebrated on LAAF Family Day, which promises an inclusive and engaging experience for all.

A Platform for Stories and Resilience

Chair of LAAF, Afrah Qassim, emphasizes the importance of storytelling and reflection through art, especially for marginalized communities. “Home is often a place of safety and identity, but for many, it is a complex narrative shaped by displacement and loss,” she noted. By providing a platform for artists to share their stories, LAAF aims to honor those enduring hardships while promoting resilience and understanding.

A Celebration of Arts and Community

The festival will also feature exciting events, including the world premiere of Tamsin Elliott and Tarek Elazhary’s highly anticipated second album. This collaboration aims to weave the rich threads of Egyptian Maqam and English folk traditions, fostering connections and healing the lingering scars of colonial histories.

Moreover, LAAF Family Day on July 26th at Sefton Park’s Palm House will be a vibrant celebration of Arab arts and culture, offering free events like music performances, traditional dance, and art workshops for children. Attendees will enjoy authentic Arab cuisine and crafts, creating moments of togetherness and community.

In essence, the Liverpool Arab Arts Festival stands as a beacon of cultural richness, showcasing the power of art to bridge divides and foster a sense of belonging. With its diverse and inclusive programming, LAAF 2026 promises to be an enriching experience for everyone involved.
