Discover the Hidden Gems of Essex: An Inspiring New Campaign Launches

Residents and visitors of Tendring are in for an exciting opportunity as the Tendring District Council (TDC) collaborates with renowned Essex storyteller and Cultural Ambassador, James Lawrence, known as Man About Country, to unveil an innovative campaign celebrating the enchanting Essex Sunshine Coast. With the aim of highlighting Tendring's rich history and stunning landscapes, this initiative promises to engage the community in a unique exploration of local culture.

A Journey of Storytelling and Discovery

Launching at the end of June, this campaign features a series of engaging social media films and immersive Story Walks that will begin in July. Each walk, led by the passionate James Lawrence, is designed to accommodate up to 30 participants, ensuring an intimate experience that combines local history with insights into the area's wildlife and heritage.

Connecting with the Land and Its History

James Lawrence expressed his desire for participants to develop a deeper connection with Tendring, stating, “This project is about more than just storytelling – it’s about pride, identity and gaining a fresh appreciation for what makes this corner of Essex so special.” His enthusiasm reflects a commitment to revealing the lesser-known narratives that define the region, from ancient woodlands to windswept coastlines.

Community Engagement at Its Best

Councillor Ivan Henderson, TDC Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, highlighted the significance of the campaign in promoting local tourism and enhancing appreciation for the area. “This campaign is a fantastic way to celebrate the Essex Sunshine Coast and encourage more people to discover Tendring’s distinctive landscapes,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of sharing these local treasures.

An Enriching Experience Awaits

Supporting such initiatives lies at the core of TDC's vision for boosting arts and culture within the district. Councillor Gary Scott remarked on the campaign’s role in opening doors to creative experiences right in the heart of Tendring, allowing both residents and visitors to find enrichment in their journey through local stories and settings.

Story Walks are scheduled for various locations, including Stour Wood, Wrabness on July 21, the Naze at Walton-on-the-Naze on July 22, and Jaywick Sands on July 23.
