Cornwall, renowned for its breathtaking gardens, boasts a treasure trove of horticultural beauty, including the illustrious Trebartha Estate. This sprawling estate has become a highlight of the National Garden Scheme (NGS), welcoming visitors with open arms and positively impacting the community through charitable contributions.

A Flourishing Visit

The Trebartha Estate, acquired by the Latham Family in 1941, has been part of the NGS for an impressive 59 years. This year, the estate celebrated a remarkable achievement, recording its highest number of visitors in a single day. "It is wonderful to share the garden with others," stated Caroline Latham, the estate's open day organizer, reflecting the sentiment of joy that permeates this beautiful locale.

With an area spanning just under 4,000 acres, visitors can explore not only scenic floral displays but also serene landscapes, including the enchanting Swan Pool and the dramatic Cascades of the Withy Brook. The estate is a symphony of colors and textures, particularly during the spring blooming season when bluebells carpet the ground, captivating guests from near and far.

A Community Commitment

The NGS plays a crucial role in providing unique access to over 3,300 private gardens nationwide, with 64 of those gardens located in Cornwall alone. In the previous year, the events organized through this scheme raised an impressive £70,000 for nursing and health charities, demonstrating the profound social responsibility upheld by garden owners like those at Trebartha.

As Libby Pidcock, one of Cornwall's Assistant County Organisers, mentioned, the NGS is increasingly inclusive, welcoming gardens of all sizes and encouraging collaboration. "You want to show people what you can do in a small garden and how much you can plant in there," she explained, highlighting the joyous connection that gardening fosters within communities.
