Community Spirit Shines Bright: Thousands Raised for Charities This Christmas
In a heartwarming display of festive generosity, residents of Bourne End, Cookham, Flackwell Heath, and the Wooburns came together to raise over £5,000 for two local charities during a special Christmas event. The initiative was led by the Bourne End & Cookham Rotary Club, which brought Santa and his sleigh through the streets to spread holiday cheer and collect donations.
Successful Fundraising Campaign
The community's efforts resulted in an impressive £4,000 being raised from donations, which was later supplemented by the Rotary Club to make a total of £5,000. This remarkable amount will be shared equally between Thames Valley Air Ambulance and the Thomas Ball Children’s Cancer Trust, both of which are important organizations that provide vital services and support to those in need.
A Show of Community Support
Rotarian Richard Monger expressed his gratitude to the residents for their overwhelming support. He emphasized that the response from the community once again highlighted the strong spirit and unity within the area. "It is events like this that reinforce our belief in the power of community and the difference we can make when we come together," he stated.
Looking Ahead: A Commitment to Community
As the Rotary Club approaches its 50th anniversary in 2026, it plans to continue its commitment to supporting local causes through various fundraising events, including the beloved Santa sleigh visits. The club's ongoing dedication ensures that they will remain a vital part of the community fabric, making a positive impact on those they serve.
