Community Spirit Shines as Local Heroes Are Honored
In a heartwarming ceremony at the Billingham Forum, Stockton Council celebrated the dedication of local heroes who have made significant contributions to their communities. Among the honorees was a remarkable 78-year-old dancer, whose inspiration and passion continue to uplift those around her. The event also recognized door-to-door transport volunteers and producers of folklore festivals, showcasing the diverse efforts that contribute to the community's vibrant fabric.
A Record-Breaking Year for Charitable Efforts
In addition to honoring individuals, the meeting highlighted record-breaking funds raised for the Butterwick Hospice and the Moses Project. During his tenure as Mayor, Cllr Stephen Richardson raised an impressive £46,108 for various charities, benefitting countless residents and families in need. The outgoing mayor expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and emphasized the importance of community spirit, saying, "I think we can say you nailed it, Stephen." His statement captures the overall sentiment of appreciation for those who tirelessly work to improve lives.
A Bright Future with New Leadership
The event also marked the appointment of Cllr Bob Cook as the new Mayor of Stockton. Cllr Cook, who has dedicated almost 35 years to public service, is known for his kindness and commitment to the community. He has chosen Autism Matters and Neoangels as his charities to support during his mayoral year, signaling a continued focus on uplifting those who face challenges. Cllr Marilyn Surtees was appointed as deputy mayor, further strengthening the council's leadership dedicated to community advocacy.
