Community Health Services in Cahersiveen Strengthened to Ensure Access and Enhance Support

The community of Cahersiveen has reason to celebrate as recent developments assure the continued provision of vital mental health services at St Anne's Community Hospital. An agreement has been reached, ensuring that the outpatient mental health clinic will remain at its current location, alleviating concerns raised by local residents about potential service relocations.

Reassurance for Local Residents

Cllr Norma Moriarty confirmed that the community can rest easy as the mental health services will not be moved to Killorglin. This decision is crucial for the community, particularly in rural areas where healthcare access can be challenging.

The commitment to maintaining these essential services was welcomed amidst local anxiety over the potential changes. “I am delighted to confirm that the mental health services at Cahersiveen Hospital will continue without interruption," said Councillor Moriarty. "This agreement not only safeguards access but also allows us to improve our emergency services.”

Enhancements to Emergency Services

The National Ambulance Service (NAS) is also ramping up its operations at the Cahersiveen Community Hospital campus. Starting August 1, NAS will commence emergency dispatch operations from the hospital, allowing for quicker responses to emergencies—targeting a 90-second activation time. Furthermore, from August 18, a fourth Patient Transport vehicle will be stationed in the South Kerry area, underscoring the NAS's commitment to timely and safe care.

Boosting Mental Health Support

In a significant step forward, mental health supports in Cahersiveen are also set to enhance. A key highlight of this initiative is the recruitment of a crisis mental health nurse, aimed at strengthening the existing support system for individuals in need. Cllr Moriarty emphasized the importance of collaboration among all involved parties, stating, “Together, we are committed to improving mental health services for our community, and this agreement marks a significant step in that direction.”

Residents can be reassured that the commitment to mental health services in Cahersiveen is unwavering, paving the way for improved care and support for those who require it most.
