Children's Stories of Kindness: A Heartwarming New Book from Refugee Authors

A remarkable new children's book titled Allah Loves Kindness has been published, showcasing the creative talents of seven refugee and asylum-seeker children. This inspiring collection of stories explores the profound meaning of kindness, drawing from the authors' personal experiences as they adapt to life in the UK.

Empowering Young Voices

The book is an initiative of the charity Zubeda Welcome, which strives to support refugee children in the UK. Founded by Atia Lokhat, a passionate children’s author and primary school teacher, the project aims to instill pride in the children's Muslim identity while promoting themes of compassion and generosity.

Over the course of several weeks, the young authors engaged in writing sessions that encouraged them to reflect on their experiences and relate them to teachings from the Quran. “The children were asked to choose some of their favourite verses and link them to stories of kindness towards animals, people, and the environment,” Lokhat explained. Their efforts culminated in a touching collection that aims to inspire kindness in others.

A Full Circle of Generosity

In addition to the children's contributions, Lokhat shares her own heartfelt story within the book, illustrating how her mother's tradition of charitable giving—symbolized by a “Sadaqah jar”—has significantly influenced her understanding of kindness and generosity. This personal touch further enriches the narrative, reminding readers of the importance of giving back to the community.

To promote a culture of charity, Zubeda Welcome is also selling Sadaqah jars alongside the book. Proceeds from both these initiatives will fund programs aimed at supporting displaced children throughout the UK, ensuring that the cycle of giving continues. As Lokhat puts it, “Zubeda Welcome supported these seven children. Now they are using their stories to give back to support other children like them.”

This initiative not only nurtures creativity among young refugee authors but also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of compassion in challenging circumstances. It embodies hope and the potential for positive change, showcasing how kindness can resonate beyond individual experiences and foster a supportive community.
