Celebrating Unsung Heroes: Nominations Open for the Suffolk Community Awards
Nominations are now officially open for the 2026 Suffolk Community Awards, a prestigious event aimed at honoring the unsung heroes who tirelessly contribute to their communities. This initiative seeks to recognize individuals, groups, and organizations making a positive impact across Suffolk through various acts of kindness and community service.
Acknowledging Community Impact
Hannah Reid, chief executive of Community Action Suffolk, emphasizes the importance of these awards, stating, "It is a cliche to say that there are a great many unsung heroes in Suffolk that make a very big difference to the lives of people and communities, but it is true." The awards serve as a platform to publicly acknowledge those who often go unnoticed yet play crucial roles in uplifting communities.
New Categories and Celebrating Local Efforts
Among the new additions is the Health and Wellbeing Award, introduced by Stuart Keeble, executive director of public health at Suffolk County Council. He notes the significance of community actions on physical and mental wellbeing, highlighting, "This award is a chance to recognize and celebrate those efforts and the positive impact they have on people’s lives across Suffolk."
Last Year’s Inspirational Winner
The previous year's award winner, 11-year-old Harli Dixon, demonstrated the power of compassionate acts by raising over £24,000 for St Elizabeth’s Hospice in memory of her mother. Her extraordinary effort symbolizes the change one person can bring to their community, showing that age is no barrier to making a significant impact.
Encouragement for Nominations
Sally Longmate, CEO of the Suffolk Association of Local Councils, urges community members to submit nominations, stressing that the awards shine a light on "small actions that have a big impact." The nomination window will remain open until Sunday, July 12, providing ample opportunity for residents to shine a light on those making a positive difference around them.
As the nomination period unfolds, it is an ideal moment to reflect on the contributions of local heroes and to participate in honoring their invaluable work. In doing so, the Suffolk Community Awards not only celebrate achievements but also inspire further acts of kindness and community spirit.
