As celebrations for Juneteenth unfold across the nation, Buffalo is proudly marking its own vibrant tradition. Shola Clark, a board member of the Juneteenth Festival, emphasizes the importance of this celebration: "Juneteenth is just a reminder that when there was progress being made for others within America, it hasn't always been that for everybody. That's still the case to this day.” This statement resonates deeply as attendees gather to commemorate their history, not merely as a struggle but as a series of accomplishments that lay the groundwork for future generations.

Attendee Tony, who traveled from South Carolina, shared, "It's a great thing to me to see our Black people get together for a good cause and have fun to celebrate each other." Clark pointed out the significance of celebrating in the East Side of Buffalo, which is known for being underserved. "Bringing the Black excellence, showing our community our entrepreneurial skills,” she stated, urges the need for collective growth and celebration.
