Celebrating Suffolk's Unsung Heroes: Nominate for the 2026 Community Awards!

The 2026 Suffolk Community Awards have opened their nominations, shining a spotlight on those remarkable individuals, groups, and organizations that make a difference in the community. This initiative is a heartfelt effort to recognize the unsung heroes whose acts of kindness and dedication often go unnoticed yet significantly uplift the lives of others.

Acknowledging the Impact of Community Heroes

According to Hannah Reid, chief executive of Community Action Suffolk, the awards represent an essential chance to acknowledge those who make a positive impact in Suffolk. She states, "It is a cliche to say that there are a great many unsung heroes in Suffolk that make a very big difference, but it is true." These awards serve to publicly acknowledge the essential contributions of individuals and groups that foster kindness and support in their respective communities.

New Award Category to Celebrate Health and Wellbeing Initiatives

One of the noteworthy aspects of this year's event is the introduction of the new Health and Wellbeing Award. Stuart Keeble, executive director of public health, highlighted the importance of local initiatives in promoting physical and mental well-being, emphasizing that this award will celebrate the impactful work happening within communities across Suffolk.

Inspiring Stories from Last Year’s Winners

Last year's awards showcased extraordinary contributions, such as 11-year-old Harli Dixon, who raised over £24,000 for St Elizabeth’s Hospice in memory of her late mother. Furthermore, tools refurbishment project Tools With A Mission received recognition for its volunteer-led efforts to support communities in Africa. These stories not only inspire but also exemplify how small actions can lead to significant change.

An Invitation to Participate

With nominations now open until Sunday, July 12, the community is encouraged to participate in this celebration of positivity and compassion. CEO of the Suffolk Association of Local Councils, Sally Longmate, emphasizes that the awards highlight "the small actions that have a big impact," inviting everyone to recognize those who deserve acknowledgment for their selfless contributions.

In a world that often focuses on the negative, the Suffolk Community Awards provide a refreshing opportunity to celebrate the good. This initiative not only honors those already making a difference but also inspires others to engage and contribute to their communities. Let’s champion our unsung heroes!
