Celebrate Conservation: Nominate Your Wildlife Heroes Today!

The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust (YWT) has launched an exciting initiative to honor those who go above and beyond for wildlife conservation as part of its 80th anniversary celebrations. As nominations are now open for the Wildlife Hero Awards, individuals, businesses, and community groups dedicated to protecting and restoring nature in Yorkshire are encouraged to step into the spotlight.

Recognizing Unsung Heroes

Rachael Bice, CEO of YWT, emphasized the collective effort required for meaningful conservation work, pointing out that the Trust's success over its 80-year history is a testament to the dedicated individuals and organizations taking action for wildlife. “To mark our anniversary, we want to shine a spotlight on the people working tirelessly and often behind the scenes,” she stated, highlighting the critical role of volunteers and conservationists in maintaining biodiversity.

How the Awards Work

The Wildlife Hero Awards will feature ten categories, aiming to showcase how anyone can contribute to wildlife conservation—from habitat restoration to policy influence. A dedicated panel, consisting of YWT staff, trustees, and partners, will review nominations and select the winners.

A Celebration Ceremony

The winners will be celebrated at a special ceremony during YWT's annual meeting on Saturday, October 3, at York College. This event will not only honor the winners but will also serve as a reminder of the importance of community involvement in environmental protection.

Join the Celebration

Residents are encouraged to take part in this celebration of local conservation efforts. Nominations will close on Friday, August 14, so those wishing to recognize their local wildlife heroes should act quickly. For more details on how to nominate, visit the YWT website.

In addition to the awards, YWT is holding a poetry competition, further engaging the community in celebrating nature this anniversary year. This initiative exemplifies the Trust's ongoing commitment to inspire people to connect with and protect the environment around them.
