Broadway Magic Comes to San Diego: Exciting Upcoming Season Announced!

In a thrilling announcement for theater enthusiasts, Broadway San Diego has revealed its 49th season, which promises to bring the magic of Broadway directly to local audiences. From September 2026 through August 2027, San Diegans will have the opportunity to experience seven current hits from New York's renowned theater scene.

A Season Like No Other

This year's lineup features shows that are currently running on Broadway for the very first time in Broadway San Diego's history, highlighting the organization's commitment to providing the very best in theater to the community. According to Vanessa Ybarra Davis, vice president of Broadway San Diego, "This season includes the last two Tony Award–winning best musicals." This dedication to excellence ensures that residents will enjoy high-quality performances in their own backyard.

Exciting Show Lineup

The upcoming season showcases a diverse range of performances, beginning with "Oh Mary!", a unique comedy centered on Mary Todd Lincoln, set to kick off from September 29 to October 4, 2026. Following this, audiences will be able to see "The Outsiders," the winner of four Tony Awards, which explores themes of friendship and self-discovery, emphasizing the idea that "there is still lots of good in the world."

Other highlights include "Buena Vista Social Club," an inspiring musical journey into the heart of Havana, and "Operation Mincemeat," a thrilling true story from World War II that is both entertaining and educational. The season will also feature "Maybe Happy Ending," celebrating human connection and the adventures that arise from chance encounters.

Accessible Theatre for Everyone

Broadway San Diego is also taking significant steps to make their shows accessible to a wider audience, with season ticket packages starting at just $335 for all seven performances. Moreover, special reduced prices are available for non-profit organizations, military personnel, and schools, demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity in the arts.

In anticipation of the season's launch, March has been designated as San Diego Theatre Month, where various local performing arts groups will offer exciting promotions, ensuring that residents can enjoy the city's vibrant theater scene this spring.

This upcoming season is not only a testament to Broadway San Diego's dedication to the arts but also a promising opportunity for the community to experience the diversity and richness of theater without needing to travel to New York. As the curtain rises in September 2026, San Diego audiences can look forward to an unforgettable season of musical performances that celebrate life, love, and resilience.
