In a refreshing turn of events, British Airways is set to enhance the travel experience for its loyal Club members by introducing a new bonus Tier Points structure effective April 1. This initiative comes as a response to customer feedback and aims to reward flexibility, making it an appealing prospect for frequent flyers.

Benefits of the New Tier Points System

Starting this April, Club members can earn additional Tier Points not just for flights but also for spending on extras such as baggage, seat selection, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) credits. This modification allows passengers to accumulate points much faster—doubled for certain services compared to previous structures. For example, every £1 spent on select extras will now yield two Tier Points, presenting a significant boost for those aiming for Gold status.

A Flexible Approach to Fare Types

The newly structured points system is also a game-changer for those who opt for more flexible fare types. Instead of a flat bonus, points will now vary based on the fare class booked. For instance, passengers flying in the Club World business class can now earn as many as 1,100 Tier Points per leg on fully flexible tickets, compared to just 400 previously. This increases the incentive for travellers to select more flexible options, which can be particularly beneficial for business travellers.

Expansion of Reward Opportunities

To top it off, British Airways is extending the points scheme to include flights operated by partner airlines such as American Airlines and Iberia, offering even more opportunities for passengers to earn rewards.
