Bishop’s Stortford Celebrates Prestigious Purple Flag Award: A Model for Night-Time Economy
Bishop’s Stortford has achieved a significant milestone by being awarded the Purple Flag at a special ceremony held in Norwich. This accolade places Bishop’s Stortford as the only location in Hertfordshire to receive this honor, and one of only 70 regions across the UK recognized for exemplary standards in managing their evening and night-time economy.
Collaboration Brings Results
The award reflects the concerted efforts of various organizations, including town centre businesses, local councils, Hertfordshire Constabulary, and community groups such as the Street Pastors. Their collaborative approach played a crucial role in meeting the stringent accreditation standards set by the Purple Flag program, which is overseen by the Association of Town Centre Management (ATCM).
The Celebration of Success
During the ceremony held at St Andrew’s Hall, joint BID manager Karen Burton expressed her excitement: “It was a fabulous evening! Being there to celebrate the outstanding work that town, city, and BID managers do across the UK was truly inspiring.” This recognition is a testament to the dedicated efforts of countless individuals and organizations working together to enhance the safety and enjoyment of the night-time experience in Bishop’s Stortford.
Commitment to Continuous Improvement
Joint BID manager Madeleine Lees emphasized the importance of ongoing efforts: “The award demonstrates the town’s commitment to delivering a safe and enjoyable night-time experience in Bishop’s Stortford.” Notable initiatives that contributed to this success included the introduction of Street Stewards, a new lighting scheme in Devoils Lane, and safety training for local businesses. The collaborative nature of the partnerships involved has been vital, with Lees stating, “Together we can achieve so much more.”
This prestigious award not only celebrates the success of Bishop’s Stortford but also sets a benchmark for other towns aiming to enhance their night-time economies. It showcases what can be achieved through dedication, partnership, and a shared vision for a vibrant community.
