In a significant step towards enhancing social welfare for Moldovan citizens, a new Social Security Agreement was officially signed between the Republic of Moldova and the Slovak Republic. This groundbreaking agreement allows Moldovan workers who have officially worked in Slovakia to access a variety of social benefits, including pensions.

Strengthening Social Rights

The signing ceremony, held in Bratislava, was attended by key officials including Moldova's Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Natalia Plugaru, and Marián Valentovič, the State Secretary of the Slovak Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Family. This agreement is set to guarantee essential social rights for individuals who have worked legally in both nations, marking a pivotal development in international social cooperation.

Broad Range of Benefits

Under this agreement, Moldovan citizens will be eligible for numerous types of pensions, such as old-age pensions, disability pensions due to general conditions, as well as survivor's pensions. This comprehensive range of benefits underscores the commitment of both governments to ensure the well-being and security of their citizens, regardless of where they may reside or work.

A Commitment to Protecting Citizens' Rights

Minister Natalia Plugaru emphasized the importance of this new agreement, stating that it is a reflection of Moldova's unwavering efforts to enhance social security for its citizens abroad. Currently, Moldova has established 22 Social Security Agreements, with 18 already in effect, showcasing the country's proactive approach towards protecting its expatriate community.

This recent agreement not only signals improved relations between Moldova and Slovakia but also highlights the broader initiative where Moldova has successfully negotiated social agreements with several countries including Italy, Greece, and Canada. As Moldova continues to strengthen its bilateral agreements, it aims to create a more robust and equitable social protection system for all its citizens.
