A Celebration of Achievement: University of Chichester Honors Distinguished Diplomat
In a remarkable ceremony held at the iconic Chichester Cathedral, Tony Kay OBE, a distinguished career diplomat, was recently awarded an Honorary Doctor of Public Administration during the University of Chichester’s winter graduation festivities. This recognition not only honors Mr. Kay's contributions to diplomacy but also highlights the importance of education and public service.
Inspiring Words from a Passionate Public Servant
Mr. Kay, who currently serves as the UK’s deputy ambassador to Brazil and is a visiting professor at the university, shared his thoughts on the significance of education in shaping meaningful lives. He stated, "Education is the key to all of us having meaning and purpose in our lives," emphasizing how 30 years of dedication to public service has fueled his passion for making a difference. His advice to graduates was to embrace kindness, step out of their comfort zones, and explore the world.
Celebrating Student Triumphs
The graduation ceremony also celebrated the achievements of students from various backgrounds, including Helen Quiroga, who earned a first-class master’s degree in international business while balancing a demanding role in the university's international office. Ms. Quiroga reflected on her experience, stating, "Writing my dissertation during my busiest time at work was a challenge, but it was definitely worth it. My master’s has given me new skills which I can use in my career."
Praise for Perseverance and Commitment
Professor Symeon Dagkas, vice-chancellor of the University of Chichester, commended both the graduates and Mr. Kay for their commitment to excellence. "It is fantastic to celebrate our students’ hard work and determination as they graduate this week," he remarked. The gathering not only celebrated academic success but also acknowledged the inspiring stories shared by Mr. Kay, reinforcing the values of public service and dedication in the pursuit of one’s goals.
