Life-size family photos win top prize
Lebohang Kganye, a photographer from Johannesburg, South Africa, has won the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize 2024 for her exhibition titled Haufi nyana? I've come to take you home. The exhibition explores themes of home, belonging, heritage, and identity in post-apartheid South Africa. Kganye's use of silhouettes and life-sized cut-out figures of her family reflects on the consequences of apartheid and colonialism. Her innovative use of photography, drawing from personal history and shared oral traditions, was praised by the jury. The exhibition will be on display at The Photographers' Gallery in London until June 2, 2024.
